Statute

Introduction
The Prize is an international Prize which was established in 2010 to respect the efforts and revive the memories of Dr Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani; the late founder of Royan Institute.
Kazemi Prize is awarded to a scientist/s who have made an outstanding contribution to biological sciences and health promotion. It shall consist of a medal, a diploma, and a cash award.
The Prize is awarded biennially in an award ceremony at Royan Institute.

Procedure for Proposal and Selection of Candidates
The Prize Executive Committee nominates the notable scientist/s who made an outstanding contribution in the related topics. After consulting with distinguished national and international jury, the recipient/s of the prize will be ultimately designated by the scientific council of Royan institute and will be announced during Kazemi Prize ceremony.

Kazemi Prize Guidelines
1. The Kazemi Prize consisting of a Bronze medal, a diploma, and a cash award and will be awarded biennial to scientist/s for an outstanding contribution to biological sciences and health promotion.
2. The Prize aims at encouraging the further development of outstanding works in biological sciences as well as appreciating the extreme efforts of the scientist who dedicates his/her life to make progress in human life and relief people’s pain.
3. The Prize Executive Committee nominates the scientist/s. and gets consult from distinguished national and international jury. After consulting with distinguished national and international jury, the recipient/s of the prize will be ultimately designated by the scientific council of Royan institute.
4. Current members of the scientific council of Royan institute shall be ineligible to receive the Prize.
5. If more than one candidate is considered eligible by the scientific council of Royan institute and selected to receive the Prize, the sum will be proportionally distributed between them.
6. These guidelines will be reviewed and updated periodically as considered appropriate.

Kazemi Prize Statute
Article 1/Establishment
Under the title of the “Kazemi Prize”, a Prize is established which shall be governed by the following provisions.

Article 2/The Founder
The Prize is established with the funds provided by Royan Institute (hereinafter referred to as “the Founder or the Foundation”).

Article 3/Prize
• The purpose of the Foundation is to award a Prize (Kazemi Prize) to a scientist or scientists, who have made an outstanding contribution to health promotion and research in biological sciences especially in stem cell biology and technology. The specific criteria that shall be applied in the assessment of the work done by the candidate/candidates shall be determined by the Prize Executive Committee. • The Prize shall be awarded during prize ceremony.
• The Prize shall consist of a Bronze medal, a diploma, and a cash award which will be determined by scientific council of Royan institute every two years.
• If the Prize is awarded to more than one scientist, the sum of money shall be proportionally distributed between them.

Article 4/ Proposal and Selection of Candidates
The Prize Executive Committee nominates the scientist/s and selects the awardee based on peer reviews from national and international jury consists of distinguished scientists in related fields. Evaluation criteria shall include research leadership, research excellence, research impact and research supervision.

• Nominees shall be introduced by the representative of the Prize Executive Committee.

• Current members of the scientific council of Royan institute shall be ineligible to receive the Prize.

Article 5/ Prize Executive Committee
• Kazemi Prize Executive Committee shall consist of:
The president of Royan Institute
The director of Royan institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology
Deputy Dean for Research Affairs
The head of international affairs in research deputy
One or two distinguished scientists from Royan Institute
Three prominent scientists from other universities or research institutes
• The presence of two-thirds of the members of the Prize Executive Committee shall be required for decision making.
